Americas Prize Winner: Pablo Ferrari

Pablo Ferrari is Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at the Universidad de Buenos Aires and since 2016 Superior Researcher at CONICET, in Argentina. He took his Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Sao Paulo in 1982. His research interests focus on interacting particle systems, cellular automata, point processes and statistical mechanics models, and consider the interplay of models of microscopic phenomena with their macroscopic counterparts.

Formerly he was Professor at University of Sao Paulo, there twice serving as vice Dean of the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics. He has held visiting positions at Université de Paris VI, Universitá di Roma, Rutgers University, Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques, University of California at Santa Barbara, Universidad de Chile, Université de Paris VI, and Newton Institute at Cambridge University.

He was a 1999 Fellow of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, and a 2011 recipient of the Consagración de la Academia Nacional de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales of Argentina and an elected member of the Academy. He is a plenary member of the Academia Brasileira de Ciencias and was named a Fellow of the International Statistical Institute in 2013.
