Special Session Proposals
The MCA aims to highlight recent mathematical achievements in the Americas and foster collaborations among researchers, students, institutions, and mathematical societies in the Americas. Special Sessions bringing together 8-16 speakers from across the Americas will form the scaffolding for these interactions.
The Special Sessions Committee invites proposals for special sessions at MCA 2025. The deadline for submission of proposals is May 31, 2024. [NOW CLOSED]
We aim to have excellent geographic and mathematical representation among the organizers and speakers for 50-75 special sessions, and we strongly encourage mathematicians from across the Americas to submit proposals.
The topics should be broad, with potential speakers located in multiple countries in the Americas. The co-organizers must represent at least two countries in the region, and the suggested speakers should be diverse in various respects, including gender and nationality. The deadline for session proposals is May 31, 2024 [NOW CLOSED], but early submission is strongly encouraged as our selection process is ongoing.
Structure of a Special Session:
- Sessions will consist of 8 or 16 25-minute talks. Sessions will run each afternoon (Monday through Thursday).
- Organizers may request a one-day session (8 talks) or a two-day session (16 talks).
- There is space for 50-75 Special Sessions (depending on length).
A proposal should include:
- The names, affiliations, and contact information (including email addresses) of all the organizers, with one organizer designated as "contact organizer." (Organizers must represent at least two countries in the Americas.)
- A title and a brief description of the topic and scope (up to one page).
- * Primary 2-digit MSC code. See this page for the list of codes.
- A preliminary list of expected speakers, including country and gender of each. (Potential speakers must be located within multiple countries of the Americas and diverse in other respects, such as gender.)
- Number of days requested (one or two).
Sessions will be approved on a rolling basis.
Although it is anticipated that limited financial support will be available to help with expenses of some of the participants, at present we cannot promise financial support for the special sessions.
To submit a proposal, e-mail the proposal as a single PDF file to the chair of the committee, Barbara Keyfitz <keyfitz.2@osu.edu>.
Questions? Any member of the Special Sessions Committee will be happy to answer questions.
Submission window opens May 1, 2023. [NOW CLOSED]
